Roadhouse #13

Roadhouse is a performance event dedicated to dance improvisation in Leeds, led by duo Eleanor Sikorski and Lewys Holt.
The night involves three 20 minute sets, with each artist invited to perform open, unplanned improvisation. Roadhouse, hosted by Sikorski and Holt, is a space for artists to practice performing and for audiences to practice watching.

WHAT IS THE WORKSHOP?
We invite you to discover synergies of movement and energy through breath, and gentle, intentional tapping on the energy centers of the body. Through touch 'tapping' and guided improvised movement we initiate a profound dialogue between mind and body, inspiring intuitive movement exploration.
Our somatic movement workshop focuses on individual exploration through improvisation in community with open ots to explore in weal me previous dance experience is necessary, but an interest in movement and an openness to explore is welcomed.
WHO IS IT WITH?
Kadeja Braun is a dance artist based in Leeds. Since graduating from IRIE! Dance Theatre Kadeja has been exploring holistic movement practices and dance. Kadeja has performed traditional west African dance for Nii Kwartey Owoo, enriching her understanding of diverse movement styles and cultural expressions.
Helen Kindred is a dance artist based in London and Co-Artistic Director of DancingStrong Movement Lab with Adesola Akinlet/e. Helen's movement practice explores somatic awareness through improvisation.

Come join our full day workshop with Akeim based around his developing practice of 10 years: BEATMOTION.
For this workshop I will be looking specifically at the below overarching elements of Beatmotion with a closer look at the power of S&S (silence and stillness), sound effecting, accompanying and spherical dancing.

Akeim Toussaint Buck is a multifaceted performer and maker, born in Jamaica and raised in England. His focus as a maker is to combine expressive skills such as: dance, poetry, beat-box, singing and acting to deliver experiences that move people. The work aims to challenge, enlighten and entertain the spectator and participant. Akeim's choreography and performance work includes: Snakebox's PLAY, Windows of Displacement, Reckoning, Sib Y Osis, Beatmotion and Souls & Cells. Film work includes Galvanise & Displaced etc.
