Important Announcement from The Middle Floor.

For the past seven years, The Middle Floor has proudly operated as an independent, artist-led studio, offering space, training, development opportunities, and a creative home for artists in Leeds.

Today, we’re sharing the difficult news that, as of 31st July, The Middle Floor will no longer be based in our city centre building. As a small independent organisation, we’ve relied on grant funding to sustain our work. Unfortunately, over the past year, we’ve been unable to secure the support needed to keep our physical space open.

What’s Changing?

From 31st July, The Middle Floor will no longer operate as a building-based organisation. While our classes, spare space, and studio-based activities will come to a close, we will continue our producing work, artist development programmes, and training offers - just in a different form.

We’re incredibly proud to have served the vibrant artistic community in Leeds for so long. The impact of the cost-of-living crisis has been widely felt, and we’re grateful to have been able to keep our doors open as long as we have.

A Final Celebration

To mark the end of this chapter, we’re hosting a farewell party on 31st July, including the premiere screening of Between The Bricks: A Collective Memory of the Wharf Street Creatives. We’d love to see you there.

This event will be pay-as-you-feel, with proceeds going towards closing costs. Any surplus will directly support our ongoing work with artists. We will have a donations based bar to get rid of stock and encourage you to BYOB.

This isn’t the end of The Middle Floor - it’s simply the end of an era. Thank you to everyone who has walked through our doors, danced in our studios, and helped build this community. We hope you’ll join us on 31st July for one last celebration in the space we’ve all called home.

With love and thanks,
The Middle Floor
